Toronto Community Housing Receives $1.6 million Enbridge Rebate for energy efficiency projects
Program has lowered energy costs, reduced emissions and increased comfort
TORONTO, May 17, 2019 /CNW/ - Jim Sanders, Senior Vice President at Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge) presented a $1.6 million cheque to Toronto Community Housing among residents of the Janet Magee building this morning. The contribution is the result of 36 energy efficiency upgrade projects that were completed throughout 2018 and is the largest rebate cheque Enbridge has given through its Affordable Housing energy efficiency program.
The projects involved a combination of boilers, ventilation upgrades, and building controls at various locations throughout the City of Toronto, and will bring comfort, cost, and energy efficiency benefits to tenants and Toronto Community Housing.
Sanders congratulated Toronto Community Housing on their conservation and energy efficiency efforts. As part of the 36 projects, 131 boilers that provide space and water heating to 28 buildings were upgraded. These projects will achieve an annual natural gas cost avoidance of $524,085. The savings are substantial and are part of Toronto Community Housing's commitment to reducing energy costs and upgrading its social housing stock.
With the help of the City, Toronto Community Housing has invested nearly $1 billion during the past five years in capital repairs and building renewal, to improve living conditions, safety, accessibility and comfort for thousands of tenants, and made energy-efficient upgrades in dozens of buildings.
