Toronto Community Housing's response to fire at 200 Wellesley St. East

TORONTO, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - Toronto Community Housing is part of a full city-wide effort led by Toronto Fire Services, including Toronto Police Services and Emergency Medical Services, to support those that have been affected by the six-alarm fire at 200 Wellesley St. East.

Toronto Community Housing has mobilized a crisis response team of staff - including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Operating Officer - to the building.

"Our primary concern is the well-being of our tenants," said Keiko Nakamura, CEO of Toronto Community Housing. "Our thoughts and concerns are with those tenants and firefighters that have been injured in the fire."

The City's Emergency Response Team is working with us to find shelter tonight for the building's approximately 1,200 residents.

The building is being evacuated by Toronto Fire Services and we are recording people as they leave the building, matching them against a list of known tenants.

The Community Care Access Centre's response team is on site as is a physician from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre who is checking on tenants. We appreciate everyone's effort in responding to this crisis.
