Toronto DC3 - Canada's First Tier III Design and Construction Certified Data Centre to Open August 1
Primus Business Services Awarded Tier III Construction Certification by Uptime Institute
TORONTO, July 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Primus Business Services, a division of Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc., today announced Canada's first Tier III design and construction certified data centre will open its doors on August 1. After rigorous evaluation and stress testing, the GTA facility with its 30,000 square feet of raised flooring and 1,000 cabinet capacity is the only multi-tenant data centre in Canada to be awarded Uptime Institute's Tier III Certification for Design and Construction. Primus Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PTGi (Primus Telecommunications Group, Inc.), NYSE:PTGI.
"Uptime Institute is duly impressed with Primus Toronto DC3 and its Tier III Facility Certification, the first and only awarded to a commercial data centre in Canada," said Vince Renaud, Senior Tier Certification Authority, Uptime Institute. "To receive Tier III Facility Certification, Primus first undertook a comprehensive review of the design, and then performed 39 functional demonstrations while Uptime Institute was on-site. The Primus facility passed all demonstrations on the first attempt. We can say with confidence this new facility will offer its clients the best-in-class data centre services in Canada."
This certification ensures clients will benefit from concurrent maintainability, meaning Toronto DC3 will never be shut down for maintenance or to replace any element of the capacity or distribution. In addition, this data centre exceeds Tier III requirements by meeting the fault tolerance capabilities of Tier IV facilities to offer customers further reliability.
Certification also eliminates the need for Canadian businesses and organizations to take on the responsibility of validating their own data centre's design and reliability, which includes anything from service disruptions to other IT problems. This means they are not only given peace of mind by not having to worry about risk, but they will save the costs associated with paying for their own audits.
"By engaging Uptime Institute as an unbiased party to validate the design and its implementation, Primus eliminates doubts as to the performance potential of the underlying infrastructure. It provides a 'safe' business decision for the site's end users, without hesitation or uncertainty as to the engineering details," said Julian Kudritzki, Senior Vice President of Uptime Institute.
"Our new data centre has earned the highest degree of independent validation in Canada. A first in the industry and a direct reflection of our commitment to providing the highest level of service to our clients," said AJ Byers, Executive Vice President of Primus Business Services. "Beyond the normal Tier III testing, we spent a significant amount of time conducting stress testing where we challenged the electrical and cooling infrastructure, loading it to 170% of design capacity to demonstrate its capacity without failure."
