TORONTO, Dec. 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (Toronto Hydro) has restored power to approximately 129,000 customers (300,000 customers without power at the height of the storm).
Tonight, Toronto Hydro has a complement of approximately 50 crews who will be on-shift for the next 12 hours to restore power.
Almost all critical loads have been restored and tonight crews are working in the following areas:
- Finch Ave. E (north), Eglinton Ave. E (south), Bayview Ave. (east), Yonge St. (west) (Sheppard Subway is served from this area)
- Islington and Eglinton area
- Southeast of Scarborough, and
- Victoria Park and Eglinton area (Bermondsey)
The company made significant progress today and will continue to work safely to get all power restored. Crews will restore feeders, the power lines that serve several hundred to several thousand customers each. This will restore large areas first. Then crews will move on to smaller single street and single home outages.
Toronto Hydro has also requested restoration assistance from other jurisdictions. Utilities have responded to our call, and the details are being worked out. It is expected crews will begin to arrive tomorrow.
