TORONTO, Dec. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - As the one-year anniversary of last December's ice storm arrives, Toronto Hydro reminds customers to be prepared and safe in the event of extended power outages.
For some residents, being prepared means connecting a back-up power supply, like a portable generator. Over the last year, Toronto Hydro has received many inquires about using generators when the lights are out.
To help make connecting a generator to your home easier and safer, Toronto Hydro has recently approved the use of meter base plug-in transfer devices. The device needs to be installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor. A list of approved devices and a step-by-step process can be found at torontohydro.com/generators.
Toronto Hydro teamed up with the Electrical Safety Authority to share generator safety and information about using these devices. Watch the video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHyH0BaY6FM.
