Toronto Hydro making progress with power restoration, but approximately 5,400 remain without power
TORONTO, March 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro is continuing work to restore power to approximately 5,400 customers following yesterday's weather event.
Crews are expected to work into the night focusing on repairs to electrical poles damaged by fire and other distribution system equipment. Damage arising from these types of equipment failures is complex and time consuming. As a result, some customers in areas hardest hit can expect to be without power until approximately midnight and may want to make alternative arrangements.
Large areas within the following boundaries are without power:
- Bethridge Road to south of Belfield Road, Highway 27 to east of Kipling Avenue
- South of Dixon Road to International Boulevard, Highway 427 to Highway 27
- East and West of Jane Street, Queens Drive in the north to Lippincott Ave in the south
At the height of the outage, Toronto Hydro had approximately 87,000 customers without power.
As crews work to restore power, please keep safety top of mind:
- If you spot a downed wire, please stay back (at least 10 feet) and report it to 911 or to Toronto Hydro's operations centre at 416-542-8000.
- With additional crews and trucks on the road, be mindful of the construction sites while walking or driving today. Stay back if you see a hydro truck working on equipment in your neighbourhood.
- Check on vulnerable neighbours or friends that might need some extra help during an extended power outage.
