Toronto Hydro Ramps Up to respond to Hurricane Sandy
TORONTO, Oct. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - With high winds and rain expected to hit Ontario today, Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (Toronto Hydro) is activating its emergency protocols and is preparing to respond to power outages that may occur due to the storm. The utility will continue to monitor weather patterns and advisories issued by Environment Canada.
Toronto Hydro repair crews will be on standby overnight to restore power where required. The combination of saturated ground, residual leaves on trees, and strong winds will likely lead to fallen limbs and downed trees resulting in power outages across the city. If customers come across damaged utility poles or see downed power lines they should stay clear as they may be energized. Electrical emergencies and power outages should be reported as soon as possible to Toronto Hydro at 416-542-8000.
Toronto Hydro wants its customers to be informed of the status of the grid as the storm advances and will be providing updates frequently via Twitter (@torontohydro), on torontohydro.com, and through the media. Safety is a top priority.
The power outage map on the Toronto Hydro website may not be accurate if outages become isolated and widespread. For the most current information, customers can follow Toronto Hydro on Twitter or call into Customer Care (416-542-8000), to hear information about outages and updates on restoration status.
