Toronto Hydro sending crews to help with New Hampshire storm power outages
TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro is dispatching crews to help our neighbours dealing with the effects of winter storms. The North Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group (NAMAG) has requested assistance from its member utilities in responding to a heavy snow storm along the Eastern Seaboard.
New England was heavily hit Wednesday and Thursday this week. According to Public Service of New Hampshire, about 178,000 customers were without power as of 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Hard-hit areas included Nashua (13,191 outages) and Manchester (20,320 outages).
Toronto Hydro crews will check-in to Manchester, New Hampshire. Approximately 25 Toronto Hydro overhead power line trades people, staff and supervisors are leaving early Friday morning. They will then be deployed by North East Utilities on behalf of Public Service of New Hampshire to areas most in need.
Last year, utility workers from across the country came to the aid of Toronto following the December 2013 ice storm. Anthony Haines, Toronto Hydro President and CEO, has vivid memories of what that sacrifice meant to Toronto Hydro and the people of Toronto.
"We know firsthand how immensely helpful assistance from industry colleagues can be during times of crisis," said Haines. "We will never forget the people who gave up their holidays, leaving family and friends to come to our aid.
"It's our turn now to help others in need – it's the least we can do."
NAMAG is a group of utilities with formal agreements to work together to provide safe, effective and coordinated mutual assistance, regional response and service restoration for customers of member utilities.
