April is Dig Safe Month
TORONTO, April 20, 2016 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro has approximately 13,000 kilometres of electrical cable running underneath the city, which includes neighbourhoods and backyards.
That's why we're reminding customers and contractors to think twice before digging, whether it's for a new garden bed, a fence or a new house.
Before putting shovels in the ground, it's important (and the law) to contact Ontario One Call, a free service that will come to your house and tell you exactly what's underground, including power cables, gas lines and telecommunication wires.
Accidentally hitting a buried power line can cause serious harm. In 2015, there were 58 instances of "dig-ins" in Toronto, which could have been avoided if the proper steps were taken.
For more information, or to book a locate with Ontario One Call, visit on1call.com or call 1-800-400-2255.
