Toronto Hydro working to restore customers still without power after wind storm

Crews focusing on damage assessment and restoring localized outages

TORONTO, Nov. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro crews worked all night and additional crews were dispatched to restore power to customers following high winds yesterday.

As of 9 a.m., approximately 2,000 customers are without power, with localized outages in pockets across Toronto. We expect most widespread outages to be restored this morning, with localized outages to be assessed and restored throughout the day.

We appreciate your patience as we work to restore power safely. Localized outages are more difficult to restore and, in some cases, may involve customer-owned equipment damage requiring repair by an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) certified electrician.

Customers are reminded that if Toronto Hydro is reporting your neighbourhood has been restored and your home is still without power, you should:

• Check to see if your neighbours have power. If they don't, it is likely that more work is to be done on your street.
• If your home is the only house without electricity, check your electrical panel inside the home to see if the breakers are in the "on" position.
• Check outside and visually inspect if the electrical equipment on your home is damaged or if the service wire is down. If the customer-owned connection point (usually the pipe and wires attached to your home connected to the powerline) is damaged, you will need to contact an ESA-certified electrical contractor. A list is available on the ESA's website at esasafe.com.
• Please report your outage to 416-542-8000 and, in the case where there is damage to your connection point, please provide details of the damage to determine next steps.

Public safety is always our priority. Toronto Hydro urges the public to exercise extreme caution around downed powerlines or fallen trees. Please keep a safe distance from downed powerlines and report to Toronto Hydro at 416-542-8000.
