TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The Integrated Bankruptcy Enforcement Unit comprised of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) - Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Commercial Crime Section and the Ontario Region Special Investigation Unit of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB), charged the following individual with offences under the Criminal Code and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). The allegations all relate to fraud and the abuse of the bankruptcy process.
Nageswaran RATNAM, 39 years of age, of Toronto, Ontario has been charged with one count under section 380 of the Criminal Code; 'Fraud over $5,000'. Furthermore, Mr. RATNAM is charged with one count under the BIA section, 198(1) (b); 'Failure to Answer Fully and Truthfully at Examination'.
The first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, October 26th, 2012 at Old City Hall in Toronto.
The combined efforts of the RCMP and the OSB Special Investigation Units will continue to focus on responding to allegations of criminal misconduct related to the bankruptcy and insolvency system and undertaking criminal investigations where evidence of wrongdoing exists. The objective is to maintain confidence in the integrity of the bankruptcy and insolvency system.
