Toronto Public Library Unveils Preliminary Plans for New Scarborough Centre

TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - Toronto Public Library is building a new branch in the Scarborough Centre area, adjacent to the south side of the Scarborough Civic Centre. Members of the public are invited to help continue to shape the creation of Toronto Public Library's newest library, Scarborough Centre Branch, at a public consultation meeting on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the Scarborough Civic Centre. Toronto Public Library staff and project architects Phillip H. Carter, Architect in joint venture with Levitt Goodman Architects Ltd. invite the public to view a preliminary design concept and continue to share their ideas about the new Scarborough Centre Branch.
Scheduled for completion in 2014, the new library will feature:
- A collection of 50,000 items for all ages.
- Bookable meeting rooms and quiet study space
- Designated zones for adults, teens and children
- Comfortable reading lounges
- An area for public art display
- A café
- Free access to high-speed wireless internet
- Express check-out and check-in
- An outdoor reading garden and public plaza
The library will animate the south side of the Civic Centre, provide a pedestrian link from Borough Drive to Albert Campbell Square and enhance connections to Ellesmere Road. It will be easily assessable by public transit.
