Toronto Raptors team up with The Gal's Got Game to provide exclusive Basketball 101 session for women
Over 100 women learn the basics of basketball through premier experience with the Toronto Raptors
TORONTO, Jan. 15, 2015 /CNW/ - On Wednesday January 28, the Toronto Raptors and The Gal's Got Game invite women to brush up on their basketball knowledge, network and watch the Raptors take on the Sacramento Kings during their Raptors 101 event at Air Canada Centre.
"The Raptors have done really well this season. We are thrilled that our members and their guests have an opportunity to witness the Raptors' magic first-hand, get exclusive access to their shootaround and learn from basketball experts," says Lally Rementilla, co-founder of The Gal's Got Game. "January 28 will definitely be a special evening to bring women and basketball together."
Attendees will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Gate 2 of Air Canada Centre, where they will be led courtside to watch an exclusive, private Raptors shootaround. Steve Baur, a performance analyst for Canada Basketball and assistant coach of the Canadian Women's National Basketball team and Denise Dignard, Director of Women's High Performance for Canada Basketball will be on hand to conduct an interactive speaker session and answer questions about the game of basketball. Tarik El-Tyeb, Coordinator of Basketball Development at MLSE will also participate in the event and answer guests' questions about the Toronto Raptors. Following the courtside experience, guests will be led to their lower-bowl seats for 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
The event will be a unique opportunity for women to learn more about the game of basketball and immerse themselves in the energetic atmosphere of a professional basketball game. Women registered for the Raptors 101 event will also be enrolled in The Gal's Got Game's Basketball 101 online course when it launches later this month. The course will provide further information about the sport of basketball.
The Gal's Got Game and MLSE experienced success with the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey 101 program on September 24, 2014, which saw over 50 women take in the Leafs morning skate, learn about the sport of hockey from Leafs alumnus Wendel Clark and watch the team's game that night against the Ottawa Senators.
Tickets to Raptors 101 on Wednesday, January 28, including a lower-bowl ticket to the game that evening are $130 plus HST and can be purchased at thegalsgotgame.com/courses/raptors-101/.
