TORONTO, March 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - As anticipation builds for the world premiere of Game of Thrones: The Exhibition, HBO Canada is adding to the excitement by announcing that series star Rose Leslie ("Ygritte") will make a special appearance to officially open the exhibition for fans and media at an exclusive red-carpet launch event at the Design Exchange on the evening of Friday, March 8. The exhibition opens to the general public the following day and due to the overwhelming demand for tickets, HBO Canada is instituting a Rush Ticket system in an attempt to accommodate everyone who wants to take part in this unique Game of Thrones experience.
Series star Rose Leslie, who plays the beautiful and cunning Ygritte from North of the Wall, is set to open the exhibition on Friday, March 8. Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5 at noon ET, HBO Canada is hosting a contest that will give 100 Game of Thrones superfans a chance to join her and get a sneak peek of the exhibition before it opens to the public. Full details on the contest will be available at themovienetwork.ca.
More than 21,000 free tickets for the eight-day event, representing over 95% of the total available allotment, have been claimed, with only a handful of weekday, daytime tickets remaining. Due to the overwhelming demand, HBO Canada is introducing a Rush Ticket system on-site at the Design Exchange. Fans are encouraged to show up at the Design Exchange during exhibition hours of operation to obtain a Rush Ticket, and then line up to enter the exhibition as space allows. All efforts will be made to accommodate everyone who wants to attend.
Toronto is the only Canadian stop for this internationally touring event with subsequent stops in New York City, Sao Paulo, Amsterdam and Belfast. The exhibition will focus on key characters from five of the noble houses (Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon and Greyjoy), showcasing a treasure trove of more than 70 original artifacts from seasons 1 and 2, plus select pieces from this year's new season.
This free event will be staged on the Trading Floor within the Design Exchange (DX). Located in downtown Toronto in the historic and original Toronto Stock Exchange building, the DX is Canada's only museum dedicated exclusively to the pursuit of design excellence and provides the ideal venue to celebrate the meticulously detailed work of the costume designers, set designers, graphic designers, and props masters behind Game of Thrones.
NOTE TO MEDIA AND PHOTOGRAPHERS: The red carpet begins at 5:30 pm ET on Friday, March 8 at the Design Exchange. To confirm your spot please contact the Media Relations team at The Movie Network (see below for contact information).
