Toronto students place first in their division at U.S. math competition
TORONTO, June 6, 2013 /CNW/ - The Fields Institute's Toronto Math Circles team placed first in Division B of the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) Competition. This was the first ARML Competition for the team.
More than 2200 students from across North America took part in the competition, which was held May 31 and June 1, 2013 at four locations in the United States. Fields' team, made up of fifteen Math Circles students, participated in four different types of competitions: team problems, a full-solution round, an individual round, and relay rounds. Toronto Math Circles will return to ARML in Division A next year, building on this year's success.
Toronto Math Circles is run at the Fields Institute from September to June each year. The program brings together bright students from all over the city, giving them a place where they learn mathematics, meet like-minded people, and have fun. Math Circles is sponsored by the Fields Institute and ANGOSS Software Corporation.
