Toronto Taste - Legendary Culinary Event Takes a Bite Out of Hunger
Second Harvest and top chefs tempt taste buds once again on June 12 in support of food rescue
TORONTO, April 28, 2016 /CNW/ - Second Harvest, Canada's largest food rescue charity, is calling all food lovers and connoisseurs to Toronto Taste, Toronto's legendary culinary fundraiser presented by The Daniels Corporation. Take a bite out of hunger on Sunday June 12 at Corus Quay, alongside the city's top chefs and beverage purveyors in support of food rescue.
The event will feature sumptuous dishes and drinks from over 90 of the most sought-after restaurants and beverage purveyors. Guests will enjoy breathtaking lakeside views, the opportunity to uncover premium wines in the fine wine auction, the chance to win a trip to India in the raffle draw and more. New this year, Second Harvest will offer three individuals the opportunity to become sous chef during the Chef Challenge for one of the three competing Chefs Kaya Ogruce, Darby Piquette and Ivana Raca. Also, one top fundraiser will earn a coveted spot at the all-star judge's panel alongside Cynthia Beretta, Chef Nick Liu, Chef Matt DeMille and Chef Juriaan Snellen.
"We're looking forward to an unforgettable culinary experience at Toronto Taste. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever before and we are thrilled to host an all-star lineup of Toronto's brightest and most celebrated chefs and beverage purveyors," said Debra Lawson, Executive Director, Second Harvest.
Since 1991, the event has raised over $11 million to support Second Harvest's food rescue program. This has enabled the organization to rescue enough fresh, surplus food to support hundreds of social service agencies across the GTA with more than 27 million meals for children, adults and seniors experiencing hunger in the city. "Twenty per cent of all of our fundraising comes directly from Toronto Taste, making this event critical for Second Harvest's success."
In its 26th year, Second Harvest is pleased to announce the 2016 Toronto Taste Chair, Neilesh Daji, as well as Honourary Chairs, Barbara and Franco Prevedello of Carbon Bar. Their steadfast commitment to food rescue and Toronto's culinary community has helped support Second Harvest's vision that no one needs to go hungry.
The Daniels Corporation has been a Presenting Sponsor of Toronto Taste for 21 years. "The opportunity to help support Second Harvest, an organization committed to working in our communities to feed people experiencing hunger, is a cause we hold close to our hearts," said Don Pugh, Vice President, The Daniels Corporation.
