50 Top Chefs, 30 Beverage Purveyors and 1,500 Food Lovers will Unite in Support of Second Harvest's Food Rescue Program
TORONTO, April 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Calling all connoisseurs – you're invited to celebrate 25 years of the city's premier culinary event, Toronto Taste, presented by The Daniels Corporation! On Sunday, June 7, 2015 savour scrumptious dishes from 50 top chefs, a startling array of beverages and breathtaking lakeside views at Corus Quay, all in support of Second Harvest's food rescue program.
What began as one of the very first culinary fundraisers in the city is now, twenty-five years later, legendary. "Toronto Taste is the most important event of the year in this city," says celebrity chef Mark McEwan. Since 1991, the event has raised over $10,300,000 to support Second Harvest's food rescue program. That's enabled Second Harvest to rescue enough good, surplus food to provide over 20 million meals for hungry children, adults and seniors in the city.
"Funds raised at Toronto Taste keep Second Harvest trucks on the road rescuing food and delivering it to social service agencies, feeding people experiencing hunger, every day," says Debra Lawson, Second Harvest's Executive Director, "This event accounts for twenty percent of our fundraising so it's extremely important for us and particularly critical for those in need of nutritious food in our city. That's why everyone; staff, chefs, vintners, volunteers and sponsors, have continued to pour their hearts and souls in to making it the very best culinary event around."
The Daniels Corporation has been supporting Second Harvest as Presenting Sponsor of Toronto Taste for an incredible 20 years. "All of us at The Daniels Corporation have the unique opportunity to go outside of our day-to-day and work with organizations that truly affect change in our community," said Daniels Vice President Don Pugh. "Over the past 20 years, we have developed a strong partnership with Second Harvest, which rescues food for distribution by community agencies. Their efforts to ensure that as many people as possible in our city don't go hungry is awe-inspiring. We are pleased to once again support Second Harvest by being Presenting Sponsor of Toronto Taste. Thank you, Second Harvest, for your admirable work."
