TORONTO, Feb. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - On February 14th Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) hosted the 1st annual Valentine's Day, HEART IN THE CITY fundraising event in support of the Ted Rogers Centre of Excellence in Heart Function at Yonge-Dundas Square from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Hundreds of enthusiastic Torontonians braved the rain to celebrate Valentine's Day with family, friends and loved ones. For a minimum donation of $20, directly deposited into an interactive donation box with a large Plexiglas LED illumined red heart, donors saw their messages of love on a large outdoor screen.
Entertainment included Juno-nominated Canadian crooner Matt Dusk who performed songs from his latest CD "My Funny Valentine: The Chet Baker Songbook".
Guest speakers included Loretta Rogers, Dr. Vivek Rao, Head, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Dr. Heather Ross, Director, Ted Rogers Centre of Excellence in Heart Function and Dr. J. Bernard Gosevitz, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Rogers Communications. The event was hosted by Breakfast Television's Jennifer Valentyne.
A flash mob of dancers performing to a medley of songs including I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor Swift), Good Time (Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen), and Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Ashford & Simpson) kicked off the festivities.
FREE Mother Parkers hot chocolate and Starbucks Coffee was served keeping hearts and hands warm while Torontonians celebrated Valentine's Day, HEART IN THE CITY for a good cause.
