Tory Lanez joins ownership group of esports giant Luminosity Gaming
TORONTO, April 30, 2019 /CNW/ - Luminosity Gaming, Canada's largest professional esports organization, and one of the largest in North America has added Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Tory Lanez to its ownership group. The investment by Lanez into Luminosity is the beginning of a partnership that will see the Toronto-born artist become a global ambassador for the franchise.
Lanez' addition to the Luminosity ownership group comes as the franchise continues its global expansion. He will be working with Luminosity to engage with fans, grow the brand, create content and to help the franchise continue its track record of success by innovating new creative ideas and leveraging Tory's wealth of experience in the music industry.
"Collaborating with someone of Tory's caliber brings a new element to our company and creates new unique opportunities for us to take advantage of the natural crossover between music, esports, and pop culture," said Luminosity President, Steve Maida. "We could not be more excited to be teaming up with Tory, and we look forward to building the best esports team on the planet."
Recently wrapping his UK tour with Drake, Lanez has had quite a busy 2019 with performing, releasing new music including his recent releases, International Fargo EP and chart climbing single "Freaky," as well as putting in work for his upcoming Latin album El Agua. The business savvy artist is now taking on the gaming world and adding another lane to his already impressive resume.
"Anyone who knows me knows I like to compete at the highest level in anything that I am a part of," Tory mentioned regarding the collaboration. " We have some amazing things in the works and I'm excited to be a part of the crossover between music and gaming."
The partnership with Tory Lanez also comes amidst success for the franchise:
- The franchise recently signed 9 new World Class Fortnite players ahead of the upcoming $40 million Fortnite World Cup such as, Tyler15 who has already qualified for the Finals in New York City this summer.
- The Vancouver Titans, managed by Luminosity, in partnership with Canucks Sports & Entertainment, were recently crowned Stage 1 Overwatch League Champions on March 24, 2019, and are currently the only undefeated team through The Overwatch League's second season with a overall record of 15-0. - Luminosity was also crowned champions of the Call of Duty World League open event in Fort Worth, Texas last month, with a prize pool of $325,000.
