Tourism industry selects Cabot Links as most exceptional tourism experience in Canada
Cabot Links receives VISA Canada Traveller Experience of the Year Award
INVERNESS, NS, Nov. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Cabot Links, Canada's first and only authentic links golf course, has been selected by its peers as the most exceptional tourism experience in Canada.
Last night, Nov. 26, at The Canadian Tourism Awards, Cabot Links received the VISA Canada Traveller Experience of the Year Award. The award is presented to the tourism business or organization that creates the year's most exceptional tourism product, service or experience centered on the fundamental principles of hospitality and customer service.
Located on the stunning west coast of Cape Breton, Cabot Links features an 18-hole par-70 course in addition to deluxe accommodations at Cabot Links Lodge. The Rod Whitman designed course incorporates the spectacular Cape Breton landscape, dramatic seaside, undulating terrain and sandy soil. Cabot Cliffs, a second 18-hole golf course at the Cabot Resort, will open for limited play in July 2015.
"The entire Cabot Links team works exceptionally hard to create an unforgettable experience within the stunning Cape Breton landscape," said Ben Cowan-Dewar, Managing Director, Cabot Links. "It is among the highest honours to be recognized by your peers and we are extremely grateful for this award from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada."
The Canadian Tourism Awards are presented annually by Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) to recognize success, leadership and innovation in Canada's tourism industry, and to reward those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer travellers superior tourism experiences in Canada.
"The judges had tough choices in this very competitive category, which showcases some exceptional Canadian products," said David Goldstein, President and CEO, Tourism Industry Association of Canada. "Having played and stayed at Cabot Links myself, there is no doubt that it exemplifies a world class experience."
In 2014, Golf Digest ranked Cabot Links at 42nd among in their World 100 Greatest Courses ranking. The magazine noted: "Bump-and-run on firm fescue turf is the game on this understated links, with muted dunes, austere bunkering and gentle, generous greens. Call it Canada's Portmarnock, though Ireland has no match for Cabot's postcard par-4 11th, a dogleg-left around a tidal yacht basin."
Designed by internationally recognized course architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Cabot Cliffs is located just north of Cabot Links on a property overlooking the Cape Breton coastline. Sports Illustrated affiliate Golf.com calls Cabot Cliffs, "2015's most anticipated course opening", and Matt Ginella with the Golf Channel said that Cabot Cliffs could be one of the top ten golf course in the world.
The Cabot Links Lodge was designed by award‐winning, Halifax based architect, Susan Fitzgerald. The Lodge features well‐appointed guest rooms, each offering floor‐to‐ceiling views overlooking the entire golf course and out to the sea. The suite interiors were designed by Alexandra Angle, giving the Cabot Links Lodge a combination of traditional and contemporary elements to create a truly luxurious and visually original place to unwind after a round of world‐class golf.
