decision to delay deliveries of 8 select Toyota division models while it addressed the sticking accelerator pedal issue that may, in rare circumstances, occur in those models, resulted in softer sales in January - with 8,246 Toyota models sold (down 14.8% from January 2009). Overall, TCI's January sales were down 10.4% from
January 2009
. Lexus division reported a best-ever January with sales up 62.1% with 953 models sold.
Despite the Toyota division recall, a number of models and categories recorded best-ever January sales, as follows:
- Toyota Trucks: 3,946 (up 3.7%)
- Lexus luxury SUVs: 584 (up 122.1%)
- Toyota Venza: 968 (up 114.6%)
- Toyota Tacoma 4x4: 494 (up 12.3%)
- Lexus RX 350: 480 (up 231.0%)

, Managing Director at TCI. "We are currently shipping pedal components to our Toyota Dealers and we anticipate modifications to customer vehicles to begin later this week. We also anticipate that new vehicle sales suspended as part of our recall action will resume this weekend."
