Travel Advisory - VIA's Services Between Montreal and Gaspé Are Back to
Normal Today
MONTREAL, Dec. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travellers that regular service between Montreal and Gaspé will resume this evening, Friday, December 17, 2010. VIA's regular train services were disrupted due to heavy rainfall that affected the Gaspé region earlier this week. This situation forced VIA to terminate its train in Matapédia and provide motor coach transportation between Matapédia and Gaspé.
Following yesterday's thorough inspection of the train lines and structures, VIA has been assured that the recent rainfall and flooding have not compromised the integrity of its infrastructure. Consequently, VIA's trains 16 and 17 between Montreal and Gaspé, leaving this evening from Montreal and Saturday afternoon from Gaspé, will follow their regular route and schedule.
While the rail line closure was beyond VIA's control, VIA nonetheless apologizes for any inconvenience that may have been caused by this disruption.
VIA's Montreal-Gaspé trains depart Montreal every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evening. Trains depart Gaspé for Montreal every Monday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon.
