Tsawwassen First Nation Announces General Election Date
TSAWWASSEN, BC, Jan. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Tsawwassen First Nation today formally provided notice of a general election, to be held on April 10th, 2013. This election is held in accordance with the decision of the TFN Judicial Council of December 11th, 2012, which declared the result of the general election held on September 5th to be invalid due to a discrepancy with the election date. The Judicial Council further clarified in its ruling that those elected on September 5th are deemed to validly hold office until the result of the new election is known.
The Election is being run under the TFN Election Act (2009) and regulations pursuant to that Act. This Act requires the appointment of an independent election officer. In December 2012, TFN's Executive Council appointed Lawrence Lewis as the election officer for the TFN 2013 General Election. Mr. Lewis has significant experience with managing First Nations elections as a Chief Electoral Officer.
