- Zoosk.com celebrates the artists (and their love songs) who didn't get a second date with the top of the charts -
TORONTO, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Tomorrow, September 25, is National One Hit Wonder Day - a day to celebrate those artists or bands that skyrocket to success producing one major hit, then fade into oblivion just as quickly. To mark the occasion, romantic social network Zoosk.com releases the list of Canadians' favourite romantic One Hit Wonders.
An online survey revealed Canada's favourite artists who only enjoyed one date with the top of the charts.
The top three One Hit Wonder romantic tunes are:
1.) Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U (1990)
2.) The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) (1995)
3.) Debbie Boone - You Light Up My Life (1977)
With honourable mention to Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight (1976), which narrowly missed out on the top-three.
While not all artists have staying power, their music can help keep the romance alive in your relationship:
"Use music to set the mood when you spend time as a couple, you may start to associate certain songs with good memories together," says Lida Elias, CEO and creative date planner from 'Save My Date', who offers personalized date planning services. "Each time you hear the song, you'll remember those good times, which can strengthen your romantic bond. If there's a song that reminds you of your partner or you know that they like, add it to your playlist and play it the next time you're spending time together. Cute little gestures that show you're thinking of each other help keep the romance alive."
- 58% of Canadians say that when in a relationship there is usually a song that they and their partner describe as "our song"
- 86% of Canadians would find it romantic if someone called the radio and requested a song for them.
- 82% would find it romantic if someone made them a mix-tape, CD or playlist.
For the truly dedicated, 88% say it would be romantic - even a dream come true - if someone wrote a love song for them. But - know your audience before penning an original tune: 12% would be embarrassed by an original song in their honour. Begging the question, how did these muses feel about the songs about them that have gone down in history as great One Hit Wonders: Tommy Tutone - Jenny (1982), Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen (1983), Toni Basil - Mickey (1982)?
