VANCOUVER, Feb. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - The Province of British Columbia has proclaimed March 2016 to be Children's Wish Month; a month dedicated to celebrating the joy that The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada brings to deserving kids who are facing high-risk, life-threatening illnesses.
Kick-off Event Plans
Wish month begins on Tuesday, March 1st with a kick-off event in two locations in downtown Vancouver. At both the Burrard and Vancouver City Centre Skytrain stations - Children's Wish volunteers and staff – accompanied by princesses and Star Wars characters – will be on hand from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM to share the magic of wishes and hand out 'wish wands'. Stop by to say 'hi', and snap a selfie with your favorite character and share it on social media using #ChildrensWishMonth.
Pacific Blue Cross Partnership
To further mark the occasion, Pacific Blue Cross will launch their Blue Wish Campaign in support of Children's Wish. Pacific Blue Cross provides the insurance for every child (and their family) whose wish is to travel, waiving pre-existing conditions and making it possible for kids to travel who would not otherwise be able to. During the month of March, text BLUEWISH to 80100 to donate $5 to Children's Wish.
Turning Vancouver Blue in Support
Other partners are getting on board as well: both Telus World of Science and BC Place will light up in Children's Wish blue on the evening of March 1st in a nod to Children's Wish Month.
Rain or Shine's Tasty Partnership
Finally, one of the tastiest ways to support Children's Wish Month is to visit any Rain or Shine ice cream and leave your change in the wish box there – at the end of Wish Month, Rain or Shine will match the total donations in the boxes!
Grand Finale Gala Plans
Children's Wish Month culminates on March 31st with Night of Wonders, the third annual gala in support of Children's Wish, which is already sold out! (For more information about Night of Wonders, visit www.nightofwonders.ca)
About The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest all Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. For more than 30 years, Children's Wish has worked tirelessly to grant heartfelt wishes to more than 23,000 children and their families.
This year, the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes across the country with the help of volunteers and generous donors; that is approximately three wishes each and every day, all year long. The BC & Yukon Chapter has granted nearly 100 wishes in the last year alone, and over 1,500 wishes ever! Each wish is the child's most heartfelt wish, and carefully structured to meet the particular needs of the child and their family.
Already this year, we are experiencing unprecedented increases of wish referrals through our strong medical community relationships for our wishes granted to children with life-threatening illnesses. Now more than ever, we are encouraging Canadians to donate and support The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada to help us continue to grant the next most heartfelt wish. Children's Wish is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory. Visit www.childrenswish.ca for more information and to donate.
