Turkey Farmers Welcome Government Investment in Poultry Research
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 10 /CNW/ - Turkey Farmers of Canada (TFC) appreciate the Federal Government's commitment to invest up to $1.8 million in poultry industry research.
The investment, announced earlier today by Abbotsford Member of Parliament, Ed Fast, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, will partner scientific expertise from academia, industry and government to address priorities and challenges concerning the poultry sectors.
It will be managed by the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC), a national organization devoted to addressing national poultry industry research priorities.
"The CPRC is committed to implementing programs for poultry research that address industry and societal needs," said Roelof Meijer, TFC Director and Vice Chair of the CPRC. "This investment will benefit Canadian turkey, poultry and egg producers, as well as processors and consumers, by adding to our current funding."
"TFC has had a long and lasting commitment to research, and we commend the Government for its support" says Chair, Mark Davies. "The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) funding will assist TFC in addressing its research priorities through CPRC."
As a founding member of the CPRC, TFC is committed to promoting the Council's efforts, and to working with other CPRC members to address key industry priorities. Government funding is delivered through the Growing Forward framework under the Agri-Innovations program.
