Turn It On, Canada! JUNO Awards Submissions Open October 1
NEW THIS YEAR – FULLY DIGITAL SUBMISSION PROCESS
TORONTO, Sept. 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Mark your calendars! The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today that submissions for the 2015 JUNO Awards will open on Wednesday, October 1. Apply online at www.junosubmissions.ca. JUNO Week will be held in Hamilton, Ontario, March 9-15, 2015.
Important Dates to Remember:
- October 24, 2014, 5:00 pm (ET): Early-bird deadline to receive discounted submission rates
- November 13, 2014, 5:00 pm (ET): Final submission deadline for all categories
- January 6, 2015, 5:00 pm (ET): Final submission deadline for International Album of the Year and Album of the Year (sponsored by Music Canada)
Eligibility:
Eligibility for the 2015 JUNO Awards applies to music released for national sale between September 1, 2013 and November 13, 2014. CARAS has also introduced a fully digital submission process and changes to the following categories:
Artist/Group/Breakthrough Artist/Breakthrough Group of the Year
The nominees for Artist, Group, Breakthrough Artist, and Breakthrough Group of the Year will now be determined by an equal weight of sales, CARAS Member vote and Next Big Sound data. Next Big Sound measures the growth and popularity of artists/bands across social networks, and streaming services. Previously, these categories were determined only by sales and CARAS Member vote.
Jazz Categories
The Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year and Traditional Jazz Album of the Year categories will now be Jazz Album of the Year: Solo and Jazz Album of the Year: Group. The Solo category will include all artists who have a solo project but play with a group of hired musicians. The Group category will include all duos, trios, quartets, ensembles, orchestras etc. Please note that the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year category will remain the same.
