TVO celebrates the past, the present and the future at The Word On The Street
TORONTO, Aug. 31 /CNW/ - TVO, Ontario's public educational media organization dedicated to informing, engaging and inspiring citizens across the province, will kick off its 40th anniversary with a special lineup of events at The Word On The Street on Sunday, September 26 in Toronto.
Over the past 40 years, TVO has grown from a public educational television broadcaster to a multi-platform media organization that now offers TV, websites, digital content on demand, social media and community events that reach and engage more people than ever before.
"For forty years, TVO's been pushing the boundaries of educational media," said CEO Lisa de Wilde. "What started as a bold experiment in TV has evolved into an ambitious digital media organization. Today, TVO is one of the most innovative public broadcasters in the world. We're a proud reflection of Ontario - on TV, online and in the community."
And coming up this fall, TVO increases its digital offerings with the launch of its public archive, an exciting project that will make vintage TVO gems available for free to the public.
"Over the last four decades TVO has created outstanding, award-winning TV programming and screen-based content for Ontario's children, parents and engaged citizens," said Ms. de Wilde. "And starting this fall, a wealth of curated content, including rare interviews and Ontario stories, will be available for free online."
Join Chair of TVO's Board Peter O'Brian and CEO Lisa de Wilde on Sunday, September 26 from 11:45 am to noon at The Word On The Street for a special ceremony that will combine many unique elements of TVO's past, present and future. TVO's Steve Paikin will emcee the lineup at the TVO stage including:
- The launch of a new "Where's Polkaroo?" contest, with special guest Polkaroo
- The largest Polka Dot Door sing-along ever
- The live debut performance of a new TVO tribute song
- An exciting announcement about TVO's public archive
