TVOKids Celebrates the Joy of Reading at The Word On The Street
TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - TVOKids returns to The Word On The Street with a live stage show full of interactive performances encouraging a love of reading and learning. Geared towards kids ages four to 12 and their families, TVOKids hosts entertain fans with a full day of performances taking place on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 11 am to 5 pm. The Word On The Street is an annual festival celebrating Canadian reading, writing, and literacy. The TVOKids Stage will be located at Queen's Park Circle.
Kids can sing, dance, and join in the fun at the TVOKids Stage. In Gisèle's Big Book Adventure! preschool fan-favorite, Gisèle, and her puppet friends write a whole new story with the audience; kids can feel the beat in Jay's Family Jam with music from Canadian acts The Samba Squad, Ariana Gillis, Brian MacMillan, AnimalKyngdom and newchoir. And TVOKids host Kara introduces her newest The Space co-hosts, Daniel and Melissa, to audiences in a fun-filled Reading Rangers song-and-dance performance.
Kids can also practice their literacy skills through interactive onsite activity stations inspired by The Reading Rangers town of Docville. Families can take part and help create one of the longest stories TVOKids has ever seen and relax in the Docville Library with some of the latest children's books.
Beloved Polkaroo will be meeting and greeting fans and posing for photos throughout the day. Festival goers are encouraged to take a selfie with Polkaroo and share it on Twitter with the hashtag #PolkarooPic and follow @TVO to enter to win a prize.
"Helping kids get excited about learning and reading sets them up for success in school and in life," said Pat Ellingson, Creative Head of Children's & Parents' Media, TVO. "At The Word On The Street, the TVOKids family gets out into the community modelling literacy with kids first-hand, creating an enjoyable, engaging and positive experience around learning."
