TVO's The Agenda with Steve Paikin Sparks Conversation About Energy Issues at WGSI
TORONTO, April 7, 2016 /CNW/ - TVO will be at the Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI) OpenAccess Energy Summit to debate and discuss how to end energy poverty and bring the ideas generated at the summit to audiences across Ontario and around the world. As the presenting media partner for the WGSI Summit, TVO will record three programs of its flagship current affairs program The Agenda with Steve Paikin, April 24-26 at the Perimeter Institute, inviting Summit participants to delve into the issues facing energy isolated communities around the world. Members of the public can register for free tickets to be a part The Agenda's audience.

Sunday April 24 3 - 4 pm – The Agenda with Steve Paikin: Indigenous Power Struggle
Hundreds of Aboriginal and northern communities are not connected to the electrical grid in Canada. A lack of reliable energy causes blackouts, harmful power surges and acts as a tether limiting economic growth and desperately needed infrastructure development. The Agenda examines what solutions are available and what role energy poverty plays in the issues facing these communities.
Monday April 25 7 - 8 pm – The Agenda with Steve Paikin: Ending Energy Poverty
Over a billion people around the world live without access to electricity and a further billion have unreliable access. As populations grow, this situation will only get worse. The Agenda examines global energy poverty and what we can do about it.
Tuesday April 26 7 - 8 pm – The Agenda with Steve Paikin: An Energy Miracle
Is there a clean energy breakthrough on the horizon that will save our planet and power our world? The Agenda examines the current state and future of cheap and clean energy technology, along with the practical and political challenges of shifting to renewable energy.
The programs are part of TVO's The Next Ontario narrative theme which examines the forces shaping the future of the province. Broadcasts are Monday to Wednesday April 25-27 at 8 and 11 pm on TVO and available on TVO.org.
