SMITHS FALLS, ON, May 14, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Tweed Marijuana Inc. ("Tweed Marijuana" or "the Company") (TSXV: TWD) and wholly owned subsidiaries Tweed Inc. (Tweed) and Tweed Farms Inc. (Tweed Farms) continue to experience an increase in demand in the medical marijuana market.
Tweed continues to engage with the medical community, over 6000 interactions to date. By promoting education in the medical community, physicians feel more comfortable incorporating marijuana in their practices, which has resulted in more Canadians choosing Tweed as their medical marijuana supplier.
The Company announced on February 18th, 2015 that over 75,000 grams had been sold to that point in Q5, the three-month period ended March 31st, 2015. The Company continued to experience growth and ended Q5 with over 165,000 grams sold.
"Incorporating strong medical outreach and education initiatives is a top priority for Tweed. Canadian doctors will feel increasingly confident prescribing cannabis to appropriate patients if they receive guidance and education", said Bruce Linton, Chairman and CEO of Tweed. "We are funding major research initiatives and creating accredited medical education materials that will benefit hundreds of thousands of Canadians who will use this medicine in the coming decade."
Tweed has received accreditation from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for a continuing medical education program.
Marijuana for Medical Purposes: The Essentials for Effective Practice was recently approved up to 1.5 Mainpro-M1 credits. The M1 designation indicates the program has demonstrated a commitment to quality educational programming and has undergone a peer-review process to ensure all content is relevant to family physicians.
More than 20,000 family physicians across Canada require Mainpro credits to maintain their CFPC membership.
Tweed will engage with the physician community in the coming weeks to outline how they can participate in this educational opportunity.
"We position our brand to be approachable to individual customers, the emphasis we place on medical outreach and education efforts extends this dialogue to include physicians. We believe we're the first Licensed Producer to offer a nationally accredited program by the CFPC, an accomplishment that will enhance our reputation within the healthcare community," said Bruce Linton.
On Monday May 11th, Tweed joined industry partners announcing start-up funding for a research framework to allow physicians in Quebec to prescribe cannabis to their patients. Less than 3% of the market currently resides in Quebec because a clear framework did not exist in the Province. Tweed has since launched a bilingual website, offering the same rich customer experience in English and French.
Tweed has enhanced the Company's diverse strain selection by adding three new strains containing higher levels of the non-psychoactive component Cannabidiol (CBD). CBD-rich strains are sought by many patients and doctors because they do not have the same psychoactive effects of strains with higher levels of THC, the more common active ingredient associated with marijuana.
Here's to Future Growth.
