OTTAWA, Jan. 12, 2016 /CNW/ - Accreditation Canada and Saint Elizabeth are working together to support health organizations across Canada in their efforts to become more person and family-centred.
There is an ever-increasing desire by Canadians to have a bigger say in health care decision making, the philosophy at the heart of person and family-centred care, or PFCC, that is gaining ground in Canada and around the world. And while there is growing evidence that PFCC can lead to better experiences, better outcomes and better cost savings, implementing this approach effectively in health care organizations can be challenging.
A common interest in promoting person and family-centred care and providing education, support, advice and guidance to health care organizations across Canada is the basis for the collaborative effort between the two organizations.
"We introduced significant changes to our standards to reflect our accreditation program's increased focus on person and family-centred care," said Suzanne Larocque, Interim President and CEO of Accreditation Canada. "Partnership with Saint Elizabeth, which has a wealth of evidence-based resources for implementing PFCC, provides an ideal opportunity to extend that expertise to our clients as they work to implement the standards."
"The time is right to take this important step for Canadians and their families to not only support PFCC but to bring our collective resources to bear toward a successful and sustainable culture shift," said Shirlee Sharkey, President and CEO of Saint Elizabeth. "Working together with a great organization like Accreditation Canada ensures the tools, resources and education we provide will be shared effectively and have a greater impact on the health care community in Canada."
The two organizations will work on a number of educational initiatives that will be rolled out to participating health care organizations throughout 2016.
