Two MEDITECH Customers Receive Prestigious HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award
WESTWOOD, Mass., Oct. 29, 2015 /CNW/ -- MEDITECH congratulates customers Ontario Shores for Mental Health Sciences (Whitby, Ontario) and Hilo Medical Center (Hilo, HI) for receiving the 2015 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award. The Davies award recognizes HIMSS Stage 6 or 7 organizations who are using health information technology to markedly improve patient safety, care outcomes, and cost savings.
"The Davies Award is a prestigious achievement for these two very accomplished organizations," says MEDITECH President and CEO Howard Messing. "We are proud to partner with these exceptional health care organizations, who are truly using their clinical data to its fullest potential to meet the highest standards in patient care."
Ontario Shores for Mental Health Sciences
Ontario Shores is the first Canadian hospital to receive the 2015 HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award, and the first recipient in the behavioral health space since 2006. Long known for leveraging technology to improve patient care, the public teaching facility uses MEDITECH's EHR to help prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) and identify high-risk patients.
In the HIMSS press release, Ontario Shores notes they've been able to identify patients at the highest risk for HAIs and initiate precautions in the absence of a physician order. The organization was able to reduce their outbreak days from 47 down to just seven in the year following their MEDITECH implementation.
Hilo Medical Center
As a member of the East Hawai'i Region of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation, Hilo Medical Center (HMC) is a role model for using HIT to improve patient safety, care outcomes, and cost savings. The HIMSS press release cites that HMC has saved millions of dollars through more efficient care delivery and revenue cycle management. The organization has had a 100 percent return on investment (ROI) for $5 million in health IT costs with Meaningful Use.
Since implementing MEDITECH in 2009, HMC saw a decrease in accounts receivable (AR) days, falling from 107 to 33—resulting in an additional ROI of $4 million. HMC's Emergency Department also experienced a $2,133,287 increase in revenue. Medication error rates dropped from 23 to an average of 2.7 per 10,000 administered doses per month, and operative report compliance increased from 12 percent, all the way up to 98 percent.
