SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Oct. 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The construction of Square du Nordet and Square du Rambler was completed on October 3. From now on, families in the Bois-Franc housing development will benefit from two additional new patches of greenery. Square du Nordet is surrounded by Rue des Équinoxes and Square du Rambler, by Rue Kenneth-Patrick. The two squares each include playgrounds for 2-5-year-olds and 6-12-year olds, a piazzetta, trees and grassy areas. This project, amounting to a total of $1.5 million, is part of the 2017 and 2018 Three-Year Capital Investment Program.
Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa is delighted with these new squares: "For several years, the Borough of Saint-Laurent has been looking after setting up green spaces in the heart of the Bois-Franc real estate development. The objective is to offer families a living environment that reflects the atmosphere and tranquillity that make this sector so special. These two squares are also part of the Local Sustainable Development Plan adopted by the Borough in August 2017. They contribute towards increasing biodiversity and building sustainable neighbourhoods on a human scale."
Less than 500 metres apart, the two squares offer a wide range of games for children—the Rambler with swings and the Nordet with sliding and climbing structures. As for families and seniors, they will be delighted by the pathways lined with benches that cross through the two squares. In addition, the two piazzettas and grassy areas make it easy to get together with others and just relax.
It is interesting to note that most of the names of the squares and their adjacent streets are based on the theme of aeronautics in order to pay tribute to the history of the Bois-Franc sector, once occupied by the Cartierville Airport. For instance, Rambler refers to the first Canadian light aircraft in 1929, while Nordet is a wind from northeastern Québec. And lastly, Rue Kenneth-Patrick, around Square du Rambler, was named in honour of the aviator and founder of Canadian Aviation Electronics Ltd (CAE). This street was inaugurated on CAE's 70th anniversary on September 13, 2017.
