MONTREAL, Nov. 5, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Espace pour la vie invites the public to look at the many ways we dwell on our planet and in the Universe, with two new multimedia shows starting November 6 at the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan: Planet Nine and The Secrets of Gravity. Audiences are sure to enjoy these two experiences combining science, art and emotions and taking them on a journey through space and time.
PLANET NINE – Finding a ninth planet in our Solar System
Astronomers and researchers are fascinated by objects on the outskirts of our Solar System, especially since Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet. What then was the large object observed in 2015 that is circulating near Pluto? What type of planet will we find hiding beyond the Kuiper belt? Are we on the brink of discovering a new planet? These and other questions are explored in Planet Nine, produced by the Adler Planetarium in Chicago and featuring the viewpoint of astronomer and astrophysics professor Mike Brown and his team. Following the show, audiences can chat with science educators about alternative points of view on the subject.
THE SECRETS OF GRAVITY – A journey through space and time
Limbradur, a young magician's apprentice, wonders why objects fall to the ground instead of floating in the air. Fascinated by the stars, the mysteries of the Universe and the laws of nature, he uses his magic powers to sneak into the Albert Einstein Museum. There he meets Alby X3, a small and clever but rather quirky robot who knows all about Einstein and his theories. What follows is an exciting journey through space and time, in which he uncovers not only the secrets of gravitation in the Universe (and gravity as we know it on Earth), but also learns about friendship and imagination. This fulldome animated film, produced by Softmachine, has won numerous awards around the world.
Nature dwells within us
In 2018, Espace pour la vie takes a look at the many ways we dwell on our planet. It's a source of inspiration for some, and a call to reflection and dialogue for others, leading to citizen-based initiatives. This year at Espace pour la vie, nature dwells within us more than ever!
Espace pour la vie is made up of four attractions on the same site: the Biodôme, Insectarium, Jardin botanique and Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan. These four prestigious municipal institutions form Canada's largest natural science museum complex. Together, they are launching a daring, creative urban movement, urging everyone to rethink the connection between humankind and nature and cultivate a new way of living.
