U-Haul Expands Operations into Historic Stockyards District
TORONTO, Feb. 18, 2015 /CNW/ -- U-Haul Company of Eastern Ontario has expanded the U-Haul network of moving and self-storage locations with its purchase of a building at 355 Weston Road in Toronto. The new U-Haul Moving and Storage of Stockyards District is situated near downtown Toronto and is currently renting trucks and trailers as well as selling moving supplies.
This three-story brick building features 95,280 square feet of building space and includes a lower-level basement. Future plans for this 1.38 acre property include the addition of climate-controlled self-storage as well as storage for U-Box moving and self-storage containers.
The Stockyards District is the northwestern quadrant of "The Junction" neighborhood, named for the junction of four railway lines in the area. The Junction was a manufacturing community that specialized in meat processing, furniture assembly and millwork in the 19th century. Stockyards was Canada's largest livestock market and the center of Ontario's meatpacking industry. While most of the meatpacking plants in the area are no longer in operation, the name Stockyards is still used.
"We are thrilled to be able to provide exceptional customer service to those in the community… and in a location closer to the downtown area," stated Antony Grocott, marketing company president of U-Haul Company of Eastern Ontario. "U-Haul Moving and Storage of Stockyards District will become a one-stop shop for our customers moving and self-storage needs in the Toronto area."
The acquisition of this vacant building was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
