PHOENIX, July 2, 2015 /CNW/ -- U-Haul International, Inc., the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, has announced the Top 10 Canadian Destination Cities of 2014 via Twitter @uhaul over the last two weeks.
The No. 1 destination has now been revealed. According to moving data reflective of nationwide statistics for the past calendar year, Calgary claimed the No. 1 spot for the second time in three years.
Montreal was No. 2, rising two spots from the previous year. Edmonton secured third for the second year in a row. Toronto, which ranked first 11 times since 2002 including last year, slipped to fourth.
Vancouver, London, Ottawa, Hamilton, Victoria and Kitchener rounded out the top 10.
The rankings reflect the top destinations for one-way U-Haul truck rentals and take into account every city, regardless of size. The data is not stated as a percentage of population and is not reflective of overall growth, though destination statistics are a strong indicator as to how well cities are attracting new residents.
The report was compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions occurring during 2014.
"U-Haul strives to serve Canadian families by meeting their moving and storage needs, and the cities on this list are clearly attracting do-it-yourself movers," stated Ron Frank, executive vice president of U-Haul International, Inc.
"Our migration data is sought-after information and through our social media platforms and online stories, we were able to release this news and highlight these great Canadian destinations like never before."
