U-Haul Reveals Top 50 Canadian Destination Cities as Summer Moving Season Begins
Calgary was declared the No. 1 Destination City for the Second Year in a Row
PHOENIX, May 24, 2016 /CNW/ -- Summer's arrival coincides with the arrival of U-Haul Moving Season, when about 45 percent of all moves occur between now and early September as families change addresses in large numbers.
With new life adventures on the horizon for so many, U-Haul today named its Top 50 Canadian Destination Cities for the past calendar year.
Calgary maintained the top spot in the rankings for the second consecutive year and third time in four years, receiving more one-way U-Haul truck rentals in 2015 than any other destination.
Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal and Ottawa completed the top five. Toronto, which was the top destination for U-Haul trucks from 2002-11 and again in 2013, climbed two spots after slipping to fourth in 2014.
London, Vancouver, Hamilton, Victoria and Kitchener claimed spots 6-10, respectively.
"From recreational activities and professional sports to our universities, Calgary – and Alberta – is a great place to raise a family and a great place for kids to be educated and pursue their chosen careers," said Gordon Anderson, U-Haul Company of Southern Alberta president. "It is and always has been a desirable place to live, but one of our province's main industries (oil) is struggling. The economy is a little behind right now. But Calgary remains a very busy location for U-Haul trucks moving in and out."
U-Haul Destination Cities reflect the top drop-off locations for one-way U-Haul truck rentals and do not account for departing traffic from those cities. Every city is considered, regardless of size. Data is not stated as a percentage of population and is not necessarily reflective of growth.
The U-Haul migration trends report was compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions that occurred during 2015.
"Our migration data offers a comprehensive assessment of where people are traveling, because our growing network of 20,000-plus locations across the U.S. and Canada is unmatched in the do-it-yourself moving industry," U-Haul International, Inc. President John (J.T.) Taylor said.
U-Haul released its top Canadian Growth Cities earlier this year. Toronto was crowned the No. 1 Growth City. Visit myuhaulstory.com for all of the individual Growth City releases and stay informed on the latest migration trends and U-Haul news in your community.
