UFCW Canada Local Unions Reach Tentative Agreement with Loblaws Supermarkets Ltd
TORONTO, June 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Following seven straight days, including a weekend of marathon negotiating, a tentative agreement was reached in the early hours of the morning on Monday, June 1 between UFCW Canada Local unions 1000A, and 175 & 633, and Loblaws Supermarkets Ltd.
The agreement affects 28,000 grocery workers at Loblaws Great Food and Superstores, Zehrs, Zehrs Great Food and Superstore and Fortinos stores across Ontario.
The local unions' negotiating committees are unanimously recommending the tentative agreement to their members.
Ratification meetings are being scheduled across the province, where members will have the opportunity to vote on the tentative memorandum of agreement. The results of the votes will not be made public until the conclusion of these meetings.
Details of the settlement will not be released publicly until voting is concluded. The provincial conciliation officer, who assisted in the negotiations, has asked that the company and the union not communicate any further with the media beyond the press release issued today while voting is underway.
Negotiations began in February 2015.
