UL Brings Together Designers, Architects and Manufacturers at 'Full of Light Experience' to Explore the Impact of Lighting Technology
Company Celebrates UN's International Year of Light
MILAN, April 8, 2015 /CNW/ -- UL, a global safety science leader, will host the "Full of Light Experience" event in Milan on April 15 – bringing together designers, architects, buyers, manufacturers and others invested in lighting technology and design.
As a patron sponsor of the United Nation's International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015), UL is hosting the "Full of Light Experience" event to help bring attention to the positive effects of light on life today since optical fibers, lasers, LEDs, microprocessors and other applications of photonic technology play a vital role in the home and workplace.
"From output and luminosity to distribution and quality, individuals in the lighting community have differing requirements of lighting technology," said Roberto Inclinati, business development manager at UL. "The 'Full of Light Experience' brings creative professionals and technologists into one room to learn from each other, uncover their unique needs and help ensure the best selection of emerging technologies. As a company committed to safety, sustainability and innovation, we're delighted to host this event in the heart of the internationally renowned city of design."
"Full of Light" will create a collaborative setting where designers and manufacturers alike can explore the physical properties of light and discuss how it impacts building aesthetics, the environment and sustainability, and human health and well-being.
The event will also bring attention to human-centric lighting – an approach that incorporates how light affects people's mood, rhythms, visual acuity and performance, while addressing the effects on the surrounding environment, energy usage and overall impact on sustainability. Experts on this approach will discuss its merits at the event.
"Light technology has revolutionized industries and has immense potential to solve wide-scale problems faced by humanity," said Joseph Niemela, senior research scientist at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, and coordinator of the IYL 2015 Global Secretariat. "As a global leader in lighting research and science, UL is bringing its expertise to this important global initiative."
The UN proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light to focus attention on the impact of light-based technologies on sustainable development, and promote solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health. IYL 2015 programs encourage improving public and political understanding of the central role of light in the modern world by bringing together stakeholders such as scientific societies, educational institutions, technology platforms, non-profit organizations and private sector partners.
Backed by UL, "Full of Light" is supported by several lighting and furniture associations, including AIDI, Apil, Assil, Assodel, Assoluce, Lighting Europe, Federlegno Arredo, FEMB, U.S. Green Building Council and Green Building Council Italia. Executives from UNESCO, Assil, Federlegno and USGBC will deliver remarks at the event. Additionally, UL will showcase lighting and furniture projects from around the world to highlight the impact quality lighting plays in different spaces.
