Union Gas helps bring safety to life for Brant area children
$3,500 grant to The Children's Safety Village of Brant
BRANTFORD, ON, Nov. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Union Gas is supporting the Children's Safety Village of Brant's mission to provide quality interactive safety education for the children of Brantford and Brant County, through a $3,500 grant awarded today.
Murray Costello, Union Gas district manager for Waterloo/Brantford and Brian Van Biesbrouck, Union Gas utility service manager for Brantford presented the cheque to Crystal Glaves, president, Gail Chambers, administrator and members of the Board of the Children's Safety Village of Brant, today at the safety village.
The Children's Safety Village of Brant is a place where students attending JK to grade 6, learn the fundamentals of personal and public safety and awareness. Children are encouraged to demonstrate the skills that they have learned in a miniature town that is complete with sidewalks, roadways, street signs and traffic lights. They navigate their way through the village by foot, on bicycles or in a small battery powered jeeps. The village provides a practical hands-on approach to safety in a controlled environment.
"As a company, our focus on safety doesn't end with the workday. We believe in investing in programs that will help make our communities safer 24/7," said Costello. "That's why we make it a priority to support important safety programs like this one, which is helping Brant County children understand the importance of safety."
"Special thanks to Union Gas for their donation which has helped us purchase a new Peg Perego Jeep to help children learn about traffic safety, and four park benches which will be used outside in our village," said Chambers. "Over 6,500 school children attend our unique facility annually, and we know that this latest addition to our village will be deeply appreciated by all."
In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses and contributing to the province's economy through investment, job creation, municipal taxes and energy efficiency programs, Union Gas is committed to managing its operations in a way that protects the safety, security, and health of its employees, customers and the public. This value is reflected each year as the company supports communities across Ontario through thousands of volunteer hours for local charitable and non-profit organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Last year alone, Union Gas contributed almost $3 million to charitable organizations across the province, including support for safety programs. For more information visit uniongas.com/community.
