Union Gas helps Greater Sudbury 'Community Jewel'
$3,000 grant to Nickel District Conservation Authority's Lake Laurentian Sign Plan
SUDBURY, ON, Sept. 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Union Gas is giving a $3,000 grant to the Nickel District Conservation Authority to help with signage at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area.
With approximately 60 kilometres of four-season trails in the conservation area, high quality signage is essential at Lake Laurentian. The funds will assist with the installation of the new main entrance sign to the lake area at South Bay Road. Union Gas will be recognized as the sponsor of this sign.
A kick off of the Sign Plan implementation began today courtesy of the Union Gas grant.
Marc Tonelli, Union Gas utility service manager for Sudbury West, presented the cheque to Lin Gibson, chairperson of Conservation Sudbury/ Nickel District Conservation Authority, and Mark Signoretti, Conservation Sudbury/ Nickel District Conservation Authority vice chair, and chair of the Friends of Lake Laurentian.
The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area is a 2,415-acre green space located 10 minutes from downtown Sudbury. The conservation area provides four-season outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking, biking, running, walking, nature photography, environmental education, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There are also numerous scenic lookouts, lakes, wetlands and a bird-watching blind.
"Union Gas cares about the environment. Our caring nature is reflected in our company culture, whether we are building a pipeline or erecting a new energy-efficient office building," said Tonelli. "That's why we support important environmental programs in the communities we serve. Your program will make a difference, and that is important to us at Union Gas."
"We want to again sincerely thank Union Gas for this most generous support which helps us to move forward with our Sign Plan," said Gibson. "Marc is a true champion of our community jewel and we thank him for that dedication."
