Union Gas Helps Junior Achievement Build Future Business Leaders
$1,500 grant for Sarnia-Lambton area Junior Achievement
SARNIA, ON, July 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping Junior Achievement in Sarnia-Lambton build future entrepreneurs and business leaders courtesy of a $1,500 grant awarded today.
Andrew Calder, Union Gas technician manager for London/Sarnia and Bob McNamara, Union Gas utility service manager for Sarnia north presented the cheque to Becky Krukowski, program manager for the Sarnia-Lambton Regional Office of Junior Achievement South Western Ontario, at the organization's office in Sarnia.
Junior Achievement strives to reach as many students as possible with the delivery of programs to support the development of business skills. Junior Achievement offers elementary and high school programs that help young people discover leadership, entrepreneurial and workforce readiness skills, so they can achieve their highest potential and future successes as citizens in the global community.
"Our youth are our greatest resource, and we believe that investing in their future is an investment worth making," said Calder. "We're proud to continue our support of Junior Achievement's education programs, which inspire and educate Sarnia-Lambton youth to be our future leaders."
"JA programs have become an essential part of a youth's learning curve in preparing them for a successful future," says Barb Smith, president of Junior Achievement South Western Ontario. "Union Gas has been an integral part of helping us offer our programs for over 40 years through volunteers and financial support. Together we empower youth in southwestern Ontario and give them the skills necessary to create healthy, robust communities."
In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses and contributing to the province's economy through investment, job creation, municipal taxes and energy efficiency programs, Union Gas has a clear set of best practices regarding the environment and actively encourages and promotes those practices via community groups throughout its distribution area. This value is reflected each year, as the company supports communities across Ontario through thousands of volunteer hours for local charitable and non-profit organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Last year alone, Union Gas contributed about $3 million to charitable organizations across the province, including environmental programs and projects.
