Union Gas Helps Kids in Thunder Bay Learn About Water Conservation
$3,500 grant to LRCA supports the Lakehead Children's Water Festival
THUNDER BAY, ON, Sept. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping young children learn about the importance of water and the need to conserve and protect this valuable resource courtesy of a $3,500 grant awarded today. The grant will assist the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) in hosting the Lakehead Children's Water Festival.
Ian Stewart, Union Gas manager of district support for Northwest Ontario, presented the cheque to LRCA's vice-chair, Donna Blunt at the 2012 Lakehead Children's Water Festival held today in the Heritage Building of the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition.
At the Festival, grade 3 and 4 students from across the LRCA's jurisdiction take part in hands on water conservation, water science and water protection activities, which complement the Ontario Curriculum. The goal of the Festival is to encourage students to think about the value of water, and how water is an important part of their everyday lives.
"At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow," says Stewart. "That means supporting important environmental conservation and ecological programs in the communities we serve. We are very pleased to help the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority make this community an even better place to live and work."
The Lakehead Children's Water Festival would not be possible without the support of local sponsors and volunteers to help run Activity Centres. This year's volunteers are from Churchill High School, the Thunder Bay Christian School, Lakehead University and community members.
"The LRCA would like to take this opportunity to thank Union Gas for their generous donation towards the 2012 Lakehead Children's Water Festival," says Blunt. "We are grateful that Union Gas recognizes the importance of water conservation awareness."
