Union Gas helps local arenas sport energy-efficient equipment
$6,900 in incentives support three energy-saving projects in Norfolk County
NORFOLK COUNTY, ON, Dec. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - Thanks to $6,900 in incentives from the Union Gas EnerSmart program, Norfolk County has installed new energy-efficient equipment in three of its area arenas.
The Union Gas EnerSmart program offers incentives to its municipal, commercial and industrial customers to implement projects that will use natural gas more efficiently.
"Natural gas is affordable and abundant and our goal is to help our municipal partners use this clean and reliable resource in an efficient way," said Doug Wilson, institutional account manager for Union Gas. "These investments will not only help Norfolk County reduce its energy consumption and operating costs, they also help the environment."
The installation of new high-efficiency boilers in Talbot Gardens and Langton arenas and infrared spectator heaters at the Delhi arena will save the county and its taxpayers about $4,000 a year. By taking the initiative to implement these upgrades, the county is leading by example and having a positive impact on the community, both in terms of savings and conservation.
"With energy being the fastest growing expenditure, the need for energy efficiency has never been greater. These energy saving projects have significantly reduced gas consumption in these three facilities, and are an important part of the County's commitment to protect the environment."
Union Gas has been dedicated to energy conservation and reducing its environmental footprint for over 15 years. Since it first began offering Demand Side Management programs in 1997, Union Gas has delivered over 4.3 billion cubic metres of natural gas savings, and reduced carbon monoxide emissions by the equivalent of removing 1.4 million cars from Ontario's roads for a year.
