Union Gas helps Nipigon Fire Dept update emergency response equipment
$3,000 grant for new hydraulic rescue tool
NIPIGON, ON, April 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping the Nipigon Fire Department purchase a new hydraulic rescue tool, also known as an emergency spreader, through a $3,000 grant awarded today.
Hydraulic rescue tools are used by emergency responders to assist in removing crash victims from vehicles and other rescues from small spaces.
Enzo Fabiano, Union Gas utility service manager, presented the cheque to Jim Keay, fire chief and Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey at the fire hall on Fifth Street.
"With our proximity to the TransCanada highway, requests for response to vehicle accidents occur on a regular basis. Having the proper extraction equipment helps to facilitate quicker response times for those in need and improves the safety of our volunteer responders," stated Mayor Harvey. "Finding funding for equipment purchases is always challenging. We appreciate the support of Union Gas, which will help us to further improve the safety of our community."
"As a company, our focus on safety doesn't end with the workday. We believe in investing in programs that will help make our communities safer 24/7," said Fabiano. "That's why we make it a priority to support important safety programs like this one, which is helping ensure our volunteer fire fighters are properly equipped."
In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses and contributing to the province's economy through investment, job creation, municipal taxes and energy efficiency programs, Union Gas has a clear set of best practices regarding the environment and actively encourages and promotes those practices via community groups throughout its distribution area. This value is reflected each year, as the company supports communities across Ontario through thousands of volunteer hours for local charitable and non-profit organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Last year alone, Union Gas contributed close to $3 million to charitable organizations across the province, including environmental programs and projects.
