Union Gas helps Windsor host the Canada-Wide Science Fair
$3,000 grant supports national championship for grades 7 to 12
WINDSOR, ON, May 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping students explore their interest in science and technology at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), courtesy of a $3,000 grant. Within the National Science Fair Program, the Canada-Wide Science Fair constitutes the national championship round, where finalists from Regional Science Fairs across the country meet and compete.
The Windsor Regional Science, Technology, and Engineering Fair (WRSTEF) partnered with Youth Science Canada to bring the annual Canada-Wide Science Fair to Windsor, from May 10 to 17, 2014. Over 1,000 participants will attend including 500 of Canada's top young scientists, adult chaperones, professionals who will judge the projects, VIPs, and volunteers who will ensure the fair runs smoothly. The exhibit hall, accommodations and opening ceremonies will be at the University of Windsor, with the awards ceremony and closing banquet at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.
"At Union Gas, we believe that investing in education creates lasting benefits for people and communities," said Andrea Seguin, Union Gas district manager for Windsor/Chatham. "That's why we are excited to support the Canada-Wide Science Fair, which is helping students from across the country develop their interest in science and technology."
"It's been a dream of the WRSTEF to co-host a Canada-Wide Science Fair and now it's our opportunity to showcase the University of Windsor, St-Clair College and the Windsor-Essex region to the brightest young minds in Canada," said Michel Larocque, host committee co-chair. "This wouldn't be possible without the generosity of our sponsors, including Union Gas. For this you have our thanks."

About Canada-Wide Science Fair
In bringing Canada's top young scientists together, the Canada-Wide Science Fair aims to accomplish two primary goals: to help participants benchmark their scientific and technological achievements against those of peers and to create a positive scientific and social experience for all the young people involved. A secondary goal is to expose other students in the CWSF's geographic area to peer role models - the best young science and technology minds in the country. The CWSF takes place in May in a different Canadian city each year.
The public is invited to view the project on Sunday, May 11, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., on Thursday May 15, from 9 to 12 p.m., and again on Friday May 16, from 9 to12 p.m. For more information visit: cwsf.youthscience.ca/.
