Union Gas helps with trail improvements in Sudbury
$2,500 grant to the Nickel District Conservation Authority's "community jewel"
SUDBURY, ON, Sept. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping trail users in Greater Sudbury courtesy of a $2,500 grant awarded today. The grant will assist the Nickel District Conservation Authority with planned major trail improvements in the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area.
Don Beauchamp, Union Gas district manager for Northeast Ontario, presented the cheque to Lin Gibson, Chairperson of the Nickel District Conservation Authority at the Lake Laurentian Nature Chalet, in Sudbury. Others in attendance included members of the 'Friends' of Lake Laurentian, Paul Sajatovic, general manager of the Nickel District Conservation Authority, Union Gas and Conservation Authority staff members.
"At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow," said Beauchamp. "That means being environmental stewards and supporting important ecological programs in the communities we serve. We are very pleased to continue to help the Nickel District Conservation Authority make this community an even better place to live and work."
The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area is a 2,415 acre green space located ten minutes from downtown. The Conservation Area provides four-season outdoor recreation opportunities including hiking, biking, running, walking, nature photography, environmental education, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There are also numerous scenic lookouts, lakes, wetlands as well as a bird watching blind.
"We want to sincerely thank Union Gas for this very generous donation," said Gibson. "Last year we received an amazing donation from Union Gas for our tree planting campaign and this year we are again pleased to receive support from Union Gas. The improvements along the trail will greatly improve the user experience and will help protect our natural environment."
