Union Gas raises over $900,000 for United Way

Company employees show generous nature once again during 2016 campaign

CHATHAM, ON, Nov. 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Union Gas employees and retirees showed their generous nature once again by raising $978,078 for United Ways across the province.

"Union Gas has a legacy of giving, a legacy which makes the 400 local communities we serve in Ontario stronger and healthier," said Union Gas President Steve Baker.

"Our culture of giving ensures United Way can continue to make critical investments with hundreds of organizations that help people every single day, locally and across the province," Baker added.

The company's United Way 2016 theme, "We Give Today, To Improve Tomorrow," captured the ultimate goal of the campaign, but it also captured employees' spirit of giving.

Numerous events were held throughout the year, including auctions, bake sales and other fun events.

"Employees enjoy these events. They are fun, but they are also raising money for an organization that is vital in the province when it comes to helping those who need assistance," said Baker.

Spectra Energy, Union Gas' parent company, matches each individual donation dollar for dollar, and those matching dollars go to local United Ways.

In addition to providing natural gas delivery services and energy efficiency programs for homes and businesses, Union Gas contributes to the province through economic investments, available jobs, municipal taxes, volunteer hours and sponsorships.
