Union Gas Sudbury Pipeline System replacement now operational

Reliable access to affordable natural gas lowers energy bills and promotes local economic growth

CHATHAM, ON, Nov. 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Union Gas announced today that the replacement of a natural gas pipeline that is part of the Greater Sudbury Pipeline System is now in service. This replacement will ensure that homes and businesses in Greater Sudbury and surrounding areas continue to have reliable access to natural gas and that capacity is available to serve an increased demand for this affordable energy source.

"The Greater Sudbury Pipeline System brings natural gas to residents and businesses in not just Greater Sudbury, but communities west as well, all the way to Espanola," said Chris Minor, Northeast district manager, Union Gas. The 2018 Greater Sudbury pipeline replacement saw 19.6-kilometres of 10-inch natural gas pipeline replaced with new 12-inch pipeline in various sections across Greater Sudbury, in particular in New Sudbury and Copper Cliff. Clean-up work will continue throughout 2019.

Overall, Union Gas' Greater Sudbury Lateral Pipeline System supplies natural gas to nearly 52,100 customers and stretches approximately 110-kilometers in length from Greater Sudbury to Espanola.
